Salisbury Captures 2019 CAC Field Hockey Championship in Dramatic 2-1 Victory over CNU

Top-seeded Salisbury clinched the 2019 CAC Field Hockey Championship with a thrilling 2-1 victory over second-seeded Christopher Newport on Saturday (Nov. 9) in Salisbury. The Sea Gulls won their 22nd league title and second consecutive conference crown.

Salisbury took an early 1-0 edge when Camryn Dennis capitalized on a scoring opportunity at the 9:16 mark of the first. Christopher Newport gained the equalizer in the 36th minute when Nyla Lewis scored on an assist from Courtney Fiest. 

Then, im the 56th minute, CAC Player of the Year Arielle Johnston scored the biggest goal of the season which proved to be the conference title-clinching score. Johnston took advantage of her chance on a pass from Rachel Domanico to lift the Sea Gulls to the 2-1 victory.

Salisbury now advances to the NCAA Tournament after securing the conference's automatic berth. The field will be announced late Sunday night (Nov. 10) with first round action starting on Wednesday (Nov. 13).
