Christopher Newport, Salisbury Set for 2024 C2C Field Hockey Season

The rivalry between Christopher Newport and Salisbury continues during the 2024 Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) Field Hockey campaign.

The Captains and Sea Gulls have combined to win the previous 10 league titles.  CNU claimed last year's title and won in 2017, while Salisbury captured eight crowns with runs of four straight twice (2013-16, 2018-22).

Salisbury is coming off a second straight trip to the national quarterfinals and returns six of its eight players who tallied 10 or more points during the 2023 season. The Sea Gulls will generate a large portion of its offense from the last two C2C Rookies of the Year: 2022 winner McKenna Horner (8 goals, 8 assists) and 2023 laureate Marli McDorman (10 goals, 6 assists). Standout midfielder Alayna Gigliotti and defender Isabel Larrabee also return after first team All-C2C campaigns.  Dawn Chamberlin begins her 38th season as head coach with four national championships under her leadership.

CNU finished the 2023 campaign ranked third in the final NFHCA National Coaches Poll.  Head coach Carrie Moura's squad returns a wealth of experienced veterans, including All-Americans Lily Kerr and Brooke Billhimer. Senior Katie Abendschoen also earned All-Region nods last year, while Caroline and Courtney Hughlett were both named to the All-C2C squad after piecing together award-winning debut campaigns.

The 2024 season starts on August 30 with the Captains and Sea Gulls meeting on October 16 at Salisbury.  The C2C Field Hockey Championship is set for November 9 at the top seed.
