Mary Washington Women And St. Mary's Men's Hoop Teams Scheduled For Neutral-Site Games In Sweet 16
The fourth-ranked Mary Washington women's basketball team and the surprising St. Mary's men's basketball team will both hit the road to play neutral-site games Friday in the Sweet 16 round of the 2008 NCAA Championship Tournament (game times TBA).
In the women's championship, CAC champ UMW (28-2) will make its third-straight "Sweet 16" appearance at Messiah College in Grantham, Pa. (suburban Harrisburg) in a Friday showdown against Tufts University (25-3). Messiah (27-2) will challenge Rochester (22-5) in the other game of the third-round doubleheader. The sectional championship game will be played Saturday at Messiah.
In the men's championship, St. Mary's University (Md.), the CAC champ with a 19-7 record, and Millsaps College (Miss.) (27-3) will square off in Game 1 of a Friday twinbill at Washington University in St. Louis, Mo. In the second game of the night, No. 11 Washington University (21-6) will take on Buena Vista University (Iowa) (23-6). The winners of the two Sectional Semifinal games will meet on Saturday to play for a berth in the Final Four.
