Mary Washington And Marymount Win In CAC Men's Basketball Playoffs

Third-seeded Mary Washington and fourth-seeded Marymount both won first-round playoff games Tuesday and advanced to the semifinal round of the 2009 CAC Men's Basketball Tournament.

The Eagles (14-11) outlasted sixth-seeded York (9-17) by an 83-76 margin while the Saints (14-12) defeated fifth-seeded Salisbury (11-15), 73-59.

UMW, who have won three-straight games and four of their last six, earned a berth in Thursday's CAC semifinals and a trip to Dover, Del., where the Eagles will face second-seeded Wesley (16-9).  Wesley has dropped four of six games since winning 11-straight in January and early February.

The Eagles and Wolverines split their regular-season meetings, each winning at home.  Wesley won the first meeting on Jan. 21, 92-83 in OT, while UMW won at home on Feb. 18 by a single point, 91-90.

Marymount, which has won five of its last six games, will take on top-seeded St. Mary's (21-4), the regular-season champ and defending conference playoff champion.  SMC is among "others receiving votes" in this week's D3hoops.com national rankings.

The Saints, who lost twice to SMC this season (once in overtime), have won five of their last six games.  The Seahawks enter Thursday's semifinal riding an eight-game win streak.
