St. Mary's Senior Guard Camontae Griffin Picked As CAC Men's Basketball Player Of The Week For Fifth Time This Season

St. Mary’s senior guard CAMONTAE GRIFFIN (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar) was named CAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the fifth time this season after averaging 17.5 points, 4.3 assists and 3.0 rebounds, 1.3 steals in leading the Seahawks to four wins, clinching the CAC regular-season title and top seed in the CAC Tournament for the second-straight year. Griffin drained 22 points and matches his season-high with five assists in a showdown for first place against Wesley, and added a 20-point performance at Gallaudet. In less than two seasons, Griffin reached the 1,000 career point plateau in Tuesday’s win over Wesley. Griffin tallied 14 points in each weekend win against York and Mary Washington. He was SMC’s leading scorer in three of four games and had just five turnovers in four games.

Wesley freshman guard/forward PAUL REYNOLDS (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) was named CAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week after averaging 21 points and shooting 78% from the field in a pair of CAC wins, lifting the defending CAC Champion Wolverines into a tie for second place heading into the final week of the season. Reynolds drained 8-of-10 from the field on the way to a game-high 19 points and added seven boards Saturday against Gallaudet. Sunday, Reynolds dropped in a career-high 23 points, hitting 6-for-8 from the field and 10-for-12 from the line, in a road win at Marymount.

St. Mary’s senior guard CAMONTAE GRIFFIN (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar) was named CAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week after firing in a game-high 34 points as the Seahawks won their only game of the week, a non-conference affair at Christopher Newport. Griffin drained 19-of-21 from the free throw line, including all 12 in the first half, and added four boards, two thefts and two assists.

Salisbury senior guard GREG PALMER (Salisbury, Md./Salisbury Christian) was named CAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week after averaging 24.0 points and leading the Sea Gulls to three-straight wins and into the CAC playoff hunt. Palmer totaled 29 points and added three boards and two assists in a win over Mary Washington to start the week. He followed that with a 19-point, five rebound performance in an eight-point win at Stevenson. Palmer ended the week with 24 points and five boards as the Gulls upended 16th-ranked St. Mary’s, which held sole possession of first place in the conference entering Saturday’s showdown.

Griffin sparked SMC’s win over Mary Washington when he scored seven-straight points in less than two minutes after the Eagles closed to within one point late in the second half.

Marymount sophomore guard TAREK AMMOURY (McLean, Va./McLean) was named CAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week after averaging 25.0 points, 10.5 rebounds and shooting 13-for-24 from the field (54.2%) and 23-for-33 from the line (69.7%) in a pair of key conference victories. Ammoury threw in 30 points and grabbed 11 boards in a midweek overtime victory that handed York its lone conference setback this season. He then totaled 20 scores and 10 boards in a road win at Salisbury.

St. Mary’s junior point guard ALEX FRANZ (Catonsville, Md./Cardinal Gibbons) and York sophomore forward PAUL KOUVARIS (Baltimore, Md./Cardinal Gibbons) were named CAC Men’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week after each was named MVP in leading their respective teams to regular-season tournament titles. Franz averaged 18.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 6.0 steals as the Seahawks captured team honors at Hampden-Sydney. He registered a double-double with season-highs of 21 points and 10 rebounds and added seven assists and seven steals before draining the game-winning three-point goal in the final 12 seconds of the one point win over the hosts in the title contest. Kouvaris averaged 16 points and 12 rebounds per game while shooting 84.6% from the field (11-for-13) and 77% from the line (10-for-13) as the Spartans won their own tournament and extended their win streak to six games. Kouvaris supplied a critical 21 points and added a career-best 15 rebounds against Gettysburg in the championship game.

York sophomore forward PAUL KOUVARIS (Baltimore, Md./Cardinal Gibbons) was named CAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week after pouring in a career-high 26 points, nearly four times higher than his season average entering the game, in the Spartans’ CAC victory over defending conference champion Wesley. In 24 minutes, Kouvaris drained 11-of-13 field goal attempts and all four free throws. He also contributed three boards, three assists, three blocked shots and a steal.

York senior guard NICK BRADY (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) was named CAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week after averaging 18.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.5 assists in a pair of conference victories, including a three-point win over 14th-ranked St. Mary’s. Brady drained a game-high 22 points, including the game-winning three-pointer from the left wing in the final five seconds to break a tie and lift the Spartans to the win over the Seahawks. Brady also knocked down 15 scores and added nine boards in a mid-week win over Gallaudet.

Mary Washington senior center BRANDON ALTMANN (Vienna, Va./Marshall) was named CAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week after averaging 25.7 points and 7.7 rebounds in three games. Altmann opened the week by scoring 27 points, 63% of the team’s total offense, in a loss against NCAA Division I Delaware State. He followed with consecutive 25-point outings, and 18 total rebounds, in UMW’s games against Hampden-Sydney and North Carolina Wesleyan in the South Region Shootout. Altmann, who posted a double-double with 12 boards vs. N.C. Wesleyan, shot 26-45 from the floor (57.8%) and 25-33 from the line (75.8%) for the week.

Griffin poured in a career and tournament-high 51 points in Sunday’s title-game victory over CAC rival Hood and broke records for most points in the tournament (78), most points in a game, most points in a half (27), most free throws made (19) and attempted (21).

Wesley junior guard RUDY THOMAS (Millsboro, Del./Sussex Tech) was named first CAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week of the 2009-10 season after registering a career-high 29 points in the Wolverines’ season-opening win over North Carolina Wesleyan. Thomas, who had four three-point goals, three rebounds and three steals in the 17-point win, was also credited with a career-high seven assists.
