CAC Basketball Championship Berths on the Line Tonight

CAC Basketball Championship Berths on the Line Tonight

Women's Bracket | Men's Bracket

The CAC basketball playoffs continue with tonight's semifinals at a trio of locations around the conference.

On the women's side, No. 1 Marymount (21-4) hosts No. 4 York (20-6) for a 6 p.m. tip-off. The Saints received a first round bye, while the Spartans held off No. 5 Salisbury 54-52 in Tuesday's first round. Marymount swept York in the regular season, including a 56-54 triumph in Arlington on Feb. 6.

The other women's semifinal will feature No. 2 Christopher Newport (22-3) hosting No. 3 Mary Washington (22-4) at 6 p.m. in a matchup that could have major NCAA postseason ramifications. The Captains earned a first round bye after rolling through much of the conference season on a 17-game winning streak, before seeing that streak end last Saturday in a 52-46 home loss to Marymount. The Eagles advanced to the semifinals with a convincing 78-48 triumph over No. 6 St. Mary's in the first round on Tuesday. CNU swept the season series from the Eagles.

Both men's semifinals feature rematches of last year's final four matchups. Top-seeded Christopher Newport (24-1) carries its 15-game winning streak into the postseason, hosting No. 4 St. Mary's (13-13) on the back-end of a CAC doubleheader at 8 p.m. St. Mary's edged No. 5 Southern Virginia in Tuesday's first round, 70-65. The Captains will look to remain perfect against CAC competition this year after posting a record 18-0 regular season conference mark.

No. 2 Salisbury (20-5) hosts No. 3 Mary Washington (15-11) at 7 p.m. in the other men's semifinal. The defending CAC champion Sea Gulls earned a first round bye as the No. 2 seed, while the Eagles held off No. 6 Wesley, 92-91 in overtime, in Tuesday's first round. The Sea Gulls swept the season series with UMW.
