YORK, Pa. -- Salisbury senior Justin Witmer was selected as the CAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 9, 2017.

Salisbury senior Justin Witmer was selected as the CAC Player of the Week after averaging 19.3 points, 4.3 assists, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.7 three-pointers per game in a 3-0 week for the Sea Gulls. Witmer began the week with career-highs of 26 points and seven assists against Washington College, shooting 8-of-11 from the floor and 3-of-6 from downtown. In a CAC win at Mary Washington, Witmer notched 14 points and four rebounds. He closed out the week with 18 points on 4-of-5 shooting from three-point range against Frostburg State, grabbing five rebounds and dishing out five more assists.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE
In the D3hoops.com week 5 rankings, Christopher Newport is ranked No. 6 and Salisbury is ranked No. 15 ... Salisbury is the lone unbeaten in conference play at 6-0 ... CNU posted road CAC wins at Wesley and Marymount this week, improving to 11-2 and 5-1 in league action. Tim Daly led the way with 14.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game, including a second-half outburst against Marymount on Sunday. Daly scored all 15 of his points in the second half to lead the Captains to a 70-57 win ... Frostburg State junior Tyler Michael averaged 23.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week for the Bobcats ... Junior forward Eric Shaw helped Mary Washington to a 2-1 week, scoring 54 points in all, including 29 in a 67-62 win at Penn State Harrisburg on Saturday. He scored 13 points in a 76-57 win over Emmanuel on Monday, and 12 in a loss to Salisbury on Thursday ... Marymount junior Dimitri Rucker led the Saints to a 1-1 week with averages of 16.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.5 blocks and 2.5 assists while shooting 60% from the field. Rucker currently sits fifth in blocks per game (1.6), ninth in rebounds (6.3), and third in field-goal percentage (54.8) in the CAC ... Matt Ayoub scored in double digits for St. Mary's in both games last week. Ayoub tallied 10 points and a season-best three assists at Frostburg State before notching 14 points with season-highs of four three-pointers, three rebounds, and one block at Wesley ... Matt Scamuffo had another big week York as the Spartans went 1-1. In a tight loss to Marymount, Scamuffo tallied 17 points and grabbed four rebounds in his 31 minutes of action. Scamuffo was 5-for-9 from three and 2-for-2 from the line while he also had an assist and a steal. In Saturday's big win over Southern Virginia, Scamuffo led the Spartans with 13 points on 4-of-8 shooting from the floor including three triples and a pair of free throws. Scamuffo also pulled in a season-high seven rebounds and two assists. He did all his damage in just 19 minutes of play due to the lopsidded score. For the week, Scamuffo averaged 15 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists in 25 minutes per game.
