Christopher Newport's McFarland & Krikorian, Mary Washington's Johnson Receive Major Awards on 2018 All-CAC Men's Basketball Team

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - For the third-straight year, Christopher Newport claimed two of the three major awards to headline the 2018 All-CAC Men's Basketball team. CNU senior guard Aaron McFarland became the third-straight Captain to win Player of the Year, while head coach John Krikorian was voted Coach of the Year for the third year in a row. Mary Washington freshman forward Drew Johnson rounded out the major award winners as Rookie of the Year.

McFarland ranked second in the CAC in both scoring (17.9 PPG) and three-pointers (2.8 3PT's per game) on his way to Player of the Year honors. He joins Tim Daly (2017 POY) and Marcus Carter (2016 POY) as recent Captains to receive the top conference award. Also a first-team All-CAC pick, McFarland concludes his career with a trio of all-conference awards. He was a second-team all-star last season and a first-teamer in 2016.

Krikorian was named by his peers as the "Jeff Gamber" CAC Coach of the Year for the third straight year after guiding the Captains to their third straight regular season title and fifth straight trip to the CAC Championship game. He is the first coach in CAC history to win the award three straight seasons, and one of five coaches to earn the honor at least three times.

Mary Washington's Johnson becomes the third Eagle to claim Rookie of the Year as the conference's top newcomer. Previous UMW players to win the award were Mark Madison in 2016 and Mike Lee in 2004.

Mary Washington senior forward Eric Shaw earned All-CAC honors for the fourth time, picking up first-team accolades for the second-straight year. Shaw was a second-team pick as both a freshman and sophomore, before capping off his career with back-to-back first team awards.

The York duo of senior forward Dalton Myers and Blayde Reich each landed on the first team for the CAC champion Spartans. Myers earned the second All-CAC first-team award his career (also in 2016), while Reich was named to the first team for the first time in his career. Reich was a second-team all-star last winter for the Spartans.

Wesley sophomore guard Brian Cameron and Salisbury senior forward Chad Barcikowski rounded out the first-team All-CAC selections. Cameron, the 2017 CAC Rookie of the Year, made his way onto the All-CAC team for the first time, while Barcikowski also claimed the first all-conference honors of his career.

Salisbury and Wesley were also represented on the second team by junior guard Blair Davis and senior guard JW Lawson, respectively. Lawson was a repeat second-team selection for the Wolverines.

Frostburg State grabbed a pair of spots on the All-CAC second team, with senior guard Tyler Michael and junior forward Edwin Cole receiving all-star nods for the Bobcats. Michael was also a second-teamer in 2017, while Cole earned All-CAC recognition for the first time.

Marymount senior forward Dimitri Rucker represented the Saints on the All-CAC second team for the second year in a row, while CNU senior forward Spencer Marin and Southern Virginia senior forward Aarun Rumbaugh nabbed all-conference honors for the first time in their careers, landing on the second team.
