CAC Men's Basketball Tournament Bracket

Top seeds Christopher Newport and York defended their home courts in Thursday's CAC men's basketball semifinals, setting up a championship showdown between the top two seeds on Saturday in Newport News. Saturday's championship will mark the first-ever title-game meeting between CNU and York.

Top-seeded CNU downed fourth-seeded Mary Washington 90-74 at the Freeman Center to advance to the CAC title game for the fifth straight season, while second-seeded and 12th-ranked York defeated third-seeded Salisbury 75-59 at Wolf Gymnasium.

The Captains (21-5) will host the Spartans (22-4) on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Freeman Center in Newport News, Va.

In York, Pa., York raced out to a 12-0 advantage and never looked back on its way to a 75-59 win over visiting Salisbury. The Sea Gulls pulled within eight points twice in the first half, but would get no closer. Matt Scamuffo led the York offense with 19 points, five three-pointers and three steals, while Jason Bady posted a well-rounded stat line for the Spartans with 15 points, seven boards, three assists, three steals and two blocks in the win. Lucas Martin led Salisbury off the bench with 14 points and eight rebounds.

In Newport News, Christopher Newport also jumped out to a significant early lead en route to a double-digit victory, ousting Mary Washington 90-74. The Captains never trailed in the game and led by as many as 25 in the opening half. Senior Aaron McFarland erupted for a career-high 35 points, including 25 in the second half, to lead the Captains to the win. McFarland also set a new CNU mark for free throw percentage by going 16-for-16 at the free throw line.
