Five CAC Men's Basketball Players Earn CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors

Five CAC men's basketball players have been selected to the 2017-18 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Team, announced Thursday. Frostburg State senior Tyler Michael and Marymount junior Brandon Rogers were repeat honorees, while the York duo of seniors Dalton Myers and Matt Scamuffo along with Salisbury sophomore Lucas Martin earned the distinction for the first time. 

To be eligible for the COSIDA Academic All-America and All-District programs, a student-athlete must be a starter or significant reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average.
 
The CoSIDA Academic All-American teams will be released in late February.

Frostburg State's Michael boasts a 3.78 cumulative GPA throughout his four years at Frostburg and majors in health science. Michael capped his playing career on Tuesday night after helping the Bobcats to the CAC Tournament. He leads the league in field goals (196), is second in points (461) and third in points per game (17.7). He is seventh all-time in program history with 1,410 points and he was a Second Team All-CAC honoree last year. Michael led the Bobcats in scoring in 10 games this winter, while scoring 10 or more points in 23 games and more than 20 points in 11 contests.

Salisbury's Martin has posted a 4.0 GPA as a Computer Science major. He has played in 24 of the Sea Gulls' 28 games this season, averaging 3.1 points per game on a 45.3 percent mark from the field.

York's Myers is a graduate student for the Spartans as he graduated in May with his undergraduate degree in biology. He owned a 3.73 GPA for his undergraduate work while he has earned a 3.66 GPA in his first semester as he pursues his Masters of Business Administration. Myers is a seven-time member of the York College Dean's List while he is a four-time Capital Athletic Conference All-Academic selection and a four-time York College Athletic Honor Roll member. Myers leads the Spartans in scoring as he is averaging 18.0 points per game. He is pulling in 4.8 rebounds, dishing out 1.5 assists and blocking 0.8 shots per game. He is shooting 56.5% from the floor, 43.6% from three and 80.7% from the free throw line.

York's Scamuffo is a senior who boasts a GPA of 3.73 as a mathematics major. Scamuffo is a six-time member of the Dean's List. He is a three-time CAC All-Academic pick in addition to being a three-time member of the York College Athletic Honor Roll. Scamuffo is averaging 11.8 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game as he has started all 25 of the Spartan games in 2017-18. He has made a team high 60 three-point field goals as he ranks third in school history with 224 career threes.

Marymount's Rogers boasts a 3.91 GPA is a business administration major. As a junior, the Tokyo, Japan native started all 25 games for the Saints and ranked second on the team with 11.9 points per game, including 2.7 three-pointers per contest.
