Christopher Newport & York to Battle in Rematch for CAC Men's Basketball Championship

2019 CAC Men's Basketball Tournament Bracket

Christopher Newport and York (Pa.) earned victories in the conference semifinals on Thursday (Feb. 21) night and will advance to Saturday's (Feb. 23) 2019 CAC Men's Basketball Tournament Championship game. This contest will be a rematch of last year's conference title game in which York prevailed on the road, 82-73.

Christopher Newport fired 55.6 percent from the floor and went 28-for-40 from the free throw line en route to an 87-71 victory over #4 Salisbury. Top-seeded CNU put four players in double figures, highlighted by Jason Aigner's 19 points to lead all scorers. Adrian Beasley recorded 16 points for the Captains, while Marcus Carter and Cutch Ellis dropped in 15 points each in the win. Salisbury was led by Gary Briddell who notched 17 points.

In a contest featuring 28 made three-point baskets, the No. 2 seed York (Pa.) recorded a 69-62 victory over #3 Mary Washington. Jared Wagner led the Spartans with 21 points and 10 rebound on 7-of-11 shooting, including 7-of-9 from three-point range. CAC Player of the Year Jason Bady also posted a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. CAC Rookie of the Year Greg Rowson guided UMW with 18 points to lead the Eagles. York was 17-of-36 from beyond the arc, while Mary Washington went 11-for-20.
