Christopher Newport and York both picked up victories on Friday evening in round one of the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Tournament on Friday, advancing to Saturday's second round.

York started the night with an 83-59 victory over DeSales in which the Spartans scorched the nets shooting 62.7 percent from the field for the contest, including 14-of-27 from three-point range. Joey Polczynski led all scorers with 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting and 6-for-8 from long distance, while Jason Bady recorded 19 points with Jared Wagner adding 18 points in the win.

The Spartans earned their sixth NCAA Tournament win in school history and first away win in the NCAA postseason since 2005. York will face Randolph-Macon on Saturday night in Ashland, Virginia for the right to advance to the 2019 Sweet 16. Tip time from Crenshaw Gymnasium is set for 7:00 pm.

Christopher Newport overhelmed Albertus Magnus on Friday evening inside the Freeman Center to cruise to an 85-59 victory where they will face Alfred on Saturday night at 7 p.m. in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

The Captains were guided by Marcus Carter's 15 points and 10 rebounds to lead a balanced scoring attack. Jason Aigner poured in 14 points, while Dalon McHugh scored 12 points in the win. CNU forced AM into 18 turnovers to control the points off turnovers category by a 23-8 margin.

Christopher Newport is making its 23rd appearance in the NCAA Tournament, and the fourth straight. The win Friday night was the 19th in NCAA play all-time, and the Captains are now 19-23 all-time in the tournament.

Meanwhile, Salisbury bowed out of the postseason after a 75-61 defeat against Baldwin Wallace. The Sea Gulls were led by Mike Ward's 13 points in the defeat.
