Christopher Newport will move on to the Round of 16 of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament next weekend following a dominant 88-53 victory over Alfred on Saturday evening inside the Freeman Center on the campus of Christopher Newport University. CNU is on an 11-game win streak will face Hamilton next Friday (March 8) in the NCAA Tournament sectional round of 16.

CNU's Marcus Carter poured in 26 points to lead the Captains to victory, while Adrian Beasley scored 16 points and pulled down 14 rebounds in the contest. Jason Aigner also dropped in 17 points in the victory. CNU hit 16 three-pointers on Saturday night and started the contest 11-of-14 from long range to give the Captains an early 39-12 lead to set the tone for the remainder of the night.

Christopher Newport is making its 23rd appearance in the NCAA Tournament, and the fourth straight. The win Friday night was the 20th in NCAA play all-time, and the Captains are now 20-23 all-time in the tournament. This will be the eighth Sweet 16 appearance for the Captains in program history and first since 2016-17.

York, following a first round victory over DeSales, fell to host Randolph-Macon on Saturday evening by a 78-60 final score. The Spartans were guided by Joey Polczynski who scored a team-high 19 points, while CAC Player of the Year Jason Bady finishes his fine career with 16 points and eight rebounds in the loss. York trailed by a pair at the half before Randolph-Macon controlled the second half of play to put the game out of reach.
