Wesley Selected To Compete In 2008 NCAA Golf Championship Tournament

The Welsey College golf team earned a Pool B entry into the 2008 NCAA Division III Golf Championships to be held at at the Chateau Elan Resort in Braselton, Georgia on May 13-16.

The championships will be co-hosted by Emory University and the Gwinnett Sports Commission.

The Wolverines, ranked 24th in the latest Golf Wold/Nike Division III Coaches Top 25 Poll, were one of eight teams selected from Pool B, which consists of independent institutions, and institutions that are members of conferences that do not meet the requirements for automatic qualification.

Wesley enters the championships on a three-tournament win streak.  The Wolverines won at Bent Creek, the Wesley Spring Invitational, and captured their 10th consecutive conference title with the first Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) crown.  Wesley won the first nine of the streak as members of the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC).

All five of Wesley's entrants in the 2008 CAC Championships earned All-CAC honors.  Chris Osberg was the conference champion and was named the CAC Player of the Year.  Michael Rushin and Andrew Geyer joined him on the first team, while Will Scarborough and Riley Powers earned second team honors.

Twenty-five conferences were awarded automatic qualification for the championships. After the eight Pool B bids were handed out, the final two berths were reserved for Pool C, which are institutions from automatic-qualifying conferences that are not the conference champion and any remaining Pool B teams.

The top five individuals are selected from the remaining players who have not qualified with a team bringing the tournament's field to 180 golfers.
