Second Day Of CAC Golf Championship Rained Out; Stevenson Wins Team Title

Stevenson freshman Ben Lukehart earned two awards with his play in Friday's first round of the 2011 CAC Golf Championsihp, and despite Saturday's rain out the second half of the tournament, Stevenson's Chris Ramer and Hood's Andy Alger also gained top individual awards.

Lukehart's two-over-par 73 earned medalist honors in the rain-shortened championship.  In addition to his CAC Golfer of the Year award, Lukehart also picked up the CAC Rookie of the Year award.

He also helped Stevenson to its first title in the four-year history of the CAC golf championship and the third conference crown since the Mustangs joined the CAC in 2006.  Combined with the women's soccer title in the fall season, it also marks the first time Stevenson has two CAC crowns in the same academic year.

Stevenson's Chris Ramer was selected by his peers as the 2011 CAC Golf Coach of the Year.  It's the second time in the last three years Ramer has been honored.

Alger, who finished third in the tournament with an eight-over-par 79 to earn first-team All-CAC recognition, was presented the Andrew Geyer Memorial Award for “outstanding academic credentials, athletics, citizenship and community service.”  Geyer, a former top golfer and Dean's List student at Wesley College, was killed in a car accident in 2009.
