Christopher Newport Secures CAC Men's Golf Championship; CNU Senior Jonathan Howard Claims Individual Crown

CAC Golf Championship Results

Christopher Newport senior Jonathan Howard carded a two-day total of two-over 146 (71-75) to lead the Captains to the 2014 CAC Golf Championship team title on Saturday at Dauphin Highlands Golf Course in Harrisburg, Pa.

CNU recorded a total of 605 strokes to secure the team crown, placing five golfers in the top 10. Penn State Harrisburg took second place at 618, followed closely by York at 621. In the seven-year history of the CAC Golf Championship, this marks the closest the top three teams have ever finished.

Rounding out the team scores were Marymount (653) in fourth, William Paterson in fifth (664), Wesley (716) in sixth and New Jersey City (839) in seventh.

Tied for the lead entering Saturday's second round after firing a one-under 71 on Friday, Howard was one of four golfers to post a day-two low of 75 on Saturday to claim the individual title.

Howard's two-day total of 146 earned him a three-shot victory over York senior Kevin Long (74-75) and Penn State Harrisburg freshman Tyler Shank (74-75), who tied for second place.

CNU's Sam Robinson placed fourth at 151 (74-77), with William Paterson's Frank Herudek (152/71-81) and CNU's Matt DiSalvo (153/76-77) in fifth and sixth, respectively.

Completing the top-10 individual finishers were Penn State Harrisburg's Tyler Serres (154/77-77), CNU's Tyler Bennett (155/78-77), York's David Boslough (155/80-75), Marymount's Mark Curtis (156/79-77), CNU's Patrick Johnson (156/78-78), and Penn State Harrisburg's Jason Long (156/79-77).
