Robinson, Christopher Newport Take Early Lead at CAC Golf Championship

Christopher Newport's Sam Robinson posted the low round of the day to lead the Captains to the day one lead at the 2016 CAC Golf Championship on Friday at Bay Creek Golf Course in Cape Charles, Va. 

Robinson shot a two-over 74 to claim a three-shot advantage entering day two of the three-day event. CNU totaled 309 strokes (+21) to take an early 11-shot lead over second-place Marymount (320). Penn State Harrisburg was close behind in third at 325, followed by York (340), Wesley (360), William Paterson (368) and New Jersey City (383). 

Robinson was one of three Captains in the top four, along with Harry Nodwell (77, t-2nd) and Joey Corlett (78, t-4th). Defending champion Matt DiSalvo also enters day two in the top 10, tied for seventh with an 80. 

Marymount's Mason Carmel helped the Saints to second in the team standings with a five-over 77, landing in a second-place tie with CNU's Nodwell. Cody Jameson also posted a solid round one with a 78, putting him into a tie for seventh, while Erik Timlin is one shot back and tied for ninth with an 81. 

Penn State Harrisburg was led by Tyler Massar, who shot a 78 to enter day two tied for fourth with three other golfers. Keith Miller is also in the top 10 for the Lions with an 81, tied for ninth. 

York's Tyler Newton led the Spartans with a 78 on day one, putting him in a tie for fourth.
