Christopher Newport Captures Fourth Consecutive CAC Golf Championship; Rabil Takes Individual Title

Spearheaded by the top three individual placings, Christopher Newport captured its fourth consecutive CAC Golf Championship on Sunday at Bay Creek Resort in Cape Charles, Va. The Captains totaled 898 strokes (+34) over the 54-hole tournament to claim top honors. 

With the victory, CNU earns the CAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship. The NCAA Championship will take place from May 16-19 at Mission Inn Resort in Howie-in-the-Hills, Fla. This marks just the second time in conference history that its champion earns an automatic bid to NCAA's. 

Mary Washington, in its first year as a varsity sport, placed second in the seven-team field with 952 strokes. Marymount (969) edged York (973) for third place, followed by Wesley (989), Penn State Harrisburg (1000), and New Jersey City (1126). 

CNU claimed the top three placings individually, led by tournament champion David Rabil's five-over 221 (72-76-73). Rabil becomes the fourth straight CNU golfer to win the individual title, joining Johnathan Howard (2014), Matt DiSalvo (2015), and Sam Robinson (2016) as champions.

Rabil edged teammates Joey Corlett (+7, 223; 75-71-77) and Harry Nodwell (+8, 224; 72-74-78) for medalist honors. Corlett placed second and Nodwell took third. Davis Topping (+17, 233) finished eighth for CNU, while Charlie Peavley (+19, 235) also secured a top-10 finish in a tie for ninth. 

Marymount's Erik Timlin placed fourth at +11 227, while the Mary Washington duo of Ethan Kelly (+12, 228) and Phillip Manceri (+15, 231) placed fifth and sixth, respectively. 

York was led by Tyler Newton, who took seventh at +16 232. Penn State Harrisburg's Tyler Shank also claimed a top-10 placing in a ninth-place tieat +19, 235.
