Christopher Newport Takes Commanding Lead after Day One of CAC Golf Championship

Christopher Newport jumped out to a commanding early lead with three golfers among the top four after day one of the 2017 CAC Golf Championship on Friday at Bay Creek Golf Course in Cape Charles, Va. 

The Captains, who have captured three straight CAC titles since joining the conference in 2014, posted a day-one team score of 4-over 292. Just eight strokes separate second place from fifth in the team standings, with Mary Washington (315), Wesley (316), York (322), and Marymount (323) in second through fifth, respectively. Penn State Harrisburg is in sixth at 334, while New Jersey City rounding out the team scores at 381. 

Three golfers are tied atop the individual leaderboard with even-par rounds of 72 on day one - Mary Washington's Phillip Manceri and CNU's David Rabil and Harry Nodwell

CNU's Davis Topping is one stroke back of the leaders in fourth place at one-over 73, while Wesley's Dylan Chessher and CNU's Joey Corlett rounded out the top five in a tie for fifth at three-over 75.
