Mary Washington's Bonte, Oglesby Headline All-CAC Men's Golf Team

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Mary Washington landed a conference-leading five golfers on the 2018 All-CAC Men's Golf Team and swept the major awards to highlight the all-conference honors from this year's championship tournament.

Mary Washington freshman Sebastien Bonte became the third freshmen in conference history to claim both Rookie of the Year and Player of the Year honors after securing the individual title. Bonte carded a 54-hole total of 12-over-par 228 to capture a two-stroke victory. With Mary Washington in just its second year as a varsity golf program, Bonte becomes the first UMW golfer to receive major awards at the CAC Championship.

Joining Bonte on the All-CAC first team for UMW were sophomores Phillip Manceri and Jason Guintu. Manceri, collected first-team accolades for the second straight year after finishing in a tie for third place. Guintu, who posted the tournament's low round with an even-par 72 on day two, earned All-CAC accolades for the first time with his fifth-place finish.

All five UMW golfers received all-conference awards, with sophomores Ethan Kelly and Austin Matz also placing in the top 12 to secure second team honors. Kelly, who earned first team and Rookie of the Year honors in 2017, placed seventh at this year's event. Matz finished in 11th place to pick up the first All-CAC award of his career.

UMW head coach Sam Oglesby was selected by his peers as Coach of the Year. Oglesby will lead the Eagles to their first-ever NCAA Championship appearance from May 15-18 at Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C.

Second-place Christopher Newport, which saw its four-year reign atop the CAC come to an end, secured four spots on the All-CAC team. Junior Chris Brugge led the way with a tied-for-third place individual finish to represent the Captains on the All-CAC first team. A trio of Captains earned All-CAC second team recognition - juniors Will Snyder, David Rabil and Kurt Funkhouser. Rabil was the lone repeat All-CAC performer among the CNU group, earning his third consecutive All-CAC nod including Player of the Year honors in 2017.

Third-place York grabbed two spots in the all-conference team, with junior Tyler Newton and sophomore Morgan Uhlick securing first team honors. Newton finished as the runner-up on the individual leadboard with a three-day total of 230, falling two strokes short of UMW's Bonte. It marks the third-straight All-CAC award for Newton, who was a second-team honoree in 2017 and first-teamer in 2016. Uhlick, who finished in sixth place, received all-conference accolades for the first time.

Marymount senior Kyle Weitendorf represented the Saints on the All-CAC second team for the third straight season, placing 10th in the 39-player field.

In addition to his All-CAC second team award, Mary Washington sophomore Austin Matz was also the winner of the Andrew Geyer Memorial Scholar-Athlete Award. The award, presented by Wesley College in honor of former Wolverine standout Andrew Geyer, recognizes a CAC golfer annually for "outstanding academic credentials, athletics, citizenship and community service."

Matz has played as the Eagles No. 5 golfer this spring, owns a 3.4 GPA, serves as the team representative on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), represented the golf team during Eagle Celebration Day, a community event held annually, and volunteers as a tutor for the golf team study halls.
