York Edges Babson to Capture 2019 CAC Men's Golf Championship

The York Spartans fought off Babson College on the final nine holes to capture the 2019 CAC Men's Golf Championship on Saturday, April 20 at the Golden Horseshoe Resort's Gold Course, par 71 layout in Williamsburg, Va. York fired 299 (+15) in the third round to finish at 912 (+60) for the event and claimed their third league title by one stroke.

York was led by freshman Casey Leebrick who captured medalist honors with a 1-over par round of 72 on Saturday to finish at 4-over par 217 to earn a three-shot victory. Leebrick carded rounds of 74-71-72 to lift the Spartans to the team title despite beginning the tournament 3-over par on his first two holes of the event. Luke Fayocavitz (+17) and Tyler Newton (+18) aided Leebrick as the duo finished in 10th and 11 places, respectively.

Babson placed second at +61 for the event after a final day total of 298 (+14) as the Beavers were paced by freshman Niko Gianelos who finished in a tie-for-fourth position at +13 after a final round 78. Burt Gesner took sixth place at +14, while Riley Whitham wound up ninth at +16. Babson is an affiliate member of the CAC in men's golf.

Mary Washington (+65) placed third after shooting 310 (+26) on the final day. Phillip Manceri led the Eagles as he finished third at 9-over par for the three-day event shooting 1-over par 72 on the final day. Last year's medalist Sebastien Bonte finished in sixth at +14.

Christopher Newport (+76) finished fourth as David Rabil led the way in fourth place at +13 for the championship, while his teammate Kevin Quinto (+15) placed eighth.

Southern Virginia (+127) took fifth place as freshman Nathan Ouimette earned a runner-up finish at 7-over par total as he shot 79-70-71 for the tournament. 

The team standings were rounded out by Penn State Harrisburg (+195) in sixth and New Jersey City (+223) in seventh.
