York Men Conclude Stay at 2019 NCAA Division III Championships

NICHOLASVILLE, KENT – The York College men's golf squad wrapped up their fifth Division III NCAA Tournament on Wednesday as they tied for 32nd in the 42-team field. The Spartans, who did not make the cut as a team, fired a two-day total of 638 to tie with Webster and Rosemont. The Green and White shot a 320 during Tuesday's opening round and followed that with a 318 on Wednesday.

The Spartans were led by the Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Year Casey Leebrick as he finished tied for 54th in the field with a two-day total of 153. Leebrick shot a three-over par 75 on Tuesday and followed that with a 78 on Wednesday. Leebrick was just one shot out of a top 50 finish as he finished locked in a 12-way tie for 54th.

Senior Tyler Newton closed out his stellar Spartan career with a two-day total of 159. Newton shot 75 on Tuesday but had a challenging front nine on Wednesday and finished with a score of 84. Newton finished the tournament tied for 121st of 216 players in the field.

Sophomores Matthew Chalupa and Luke Fayocavitz were York's next two finishers as they placed just a shot apart. Chalupa finished with a two-day total of 164 with an 85 on Tuesday and a 79 on Wednesday. Fayocavitz finished at 165 as he went 88 on Tuesday followed by a team-best 77 on Wednesday. Chalupa finished tied for 158th place while Fayocavitz finished tied for 166th.

Sophomore Joel Marshall was York's fifth tournament participant as he completed the tournament with a score of 171. Marshall shot an 85 on Tuesday followed by an 86 on Wednesday to finish tied for 190th.

The tournament appearance was the fifth in school history as the Spartans went to the NCAA championships in 1983, 1991, 1993, and also 1997 in addition to this year's berth.

Spartan head coach David Boslough, the CAC Coach of the Year, is tasked with replacing Newton but the remainder of the Spartan lineup is slated to return. Add in another fantastic recruiting class and the Spartans are primed to make playing in the NCAA tournament a more common occurrence.
