CAC Tennis Championships and Lacrosse Semifinals On Weekend Slate

CAC Tennis Championships and Lacrosse Semifinals On Weekend Slate

The CAC postseason continues in full swing this weekend, with the men's and women's tennis championships and the men's and women's lacrosse semifinals on the weekend slate.

Both CAC Tennis Championships will feature third-seeded Salisbury at top-seeded Mary Washington, at UMW's Edward Hegmann II Tennis Complex in Fredericksburg, Va. The women will begin at 1 p.m., with the men set for a 2 p.m. start.

On the men's side, the Eagles (19-5) are 14-time defending CAC champions, with either Salisbury (13-4) or Mary Washington taking the conference crown each year since 1991. The two sides squared off in the regular season on April 12, with UMW coming away with a 6-3 victory.

The UMW women (15-7) are seeking their 11th straight crown on Saturday. Aside from Salisbury's two-year title run in 2002 and 2003, the Eagle women have captured the CAC title each year since 1991. Mary Washington defeated Salisbury (12-7) 7-2 on April 5 in the regular season matchup between the two schools.

The CAC lacrosse semifinals will also take place this weekend, with three contests set for Saturday and one on Sunday.

For the men, top-seeded Salisbury (16-1) hosts fourth-seeded Frostburg State (13-4) on Saturday at 1 p.m., while second-seeded York (14-3) welcomes third-seeded Mary Washington (14-2) for a 3 p.m. start.

During the regular season, Salisbury defeated Frostburg State 10-5 at home on March 15, while York outlasted Mary Washington in double overtime, 11-10, also on March 15.

Each of the four remaining CAC men's lacrosse teams are ranked in the latest NCAA South Regional rankings - Salisbury (1st), York (7th), Mary Washington (8th), and Frostburg State (12th).

In the women's lacrosse semifinals, second-seeded York (13-3) and third-seeded Mary Washington (13-4) are set for a rematch of one of the more exciting games of the CAC regular season. The Spartans host the Eagles on Saturday at noon. On April 5, York posted a comeback 12-10 overtime victory over UMW, which proved to be crucial for CAC playoff seeding.

On Sunday, top-seeded Salisbury (16-1) will play host to fifth-seeded Christopher Newport (10-7) at 1 p.m. The Sea Gulls will look to bounce back from their lone loss of the season, a 12-8 setback to No. 2 Cortland State last Sunday, while the Captains will look to build off of a first-round triumph over fourth-seeded St. Mary's.
