FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Frostburg State senior Nate Collins and Salisbury sophomore Kevin Murphy secured the CAC Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week awards for April 16, 2018.  

Offensive Player of the Week

Frostburg State senior Nate Collins was selected as the CAC Offensive Player of the Week after tallying six goals and three assists in a 2-0 week, helping the Bobcats push their winning streak to five games. Collins began the week with two goals, one assist and three ground balls in an 11-9 victory over Southern Virginia. With the game knotted at 8-8 in the fourth quarter, Collins found senior Keegan Colegrove for a score at the 6:21 mark and moments later scored an unassisted goal to give the Bobcats the lead for good. In a 12-6 triumph over St. Mary's, Collins notched four goals and two assists on 80% (4-for-5) shooting. He shot 66.7% for the week, with 88.9% of his shots on goal.

Salisbury sophomore Kevin Murphy secured CAC Defensive Player of the Week honors after tallying a career-high four caused turnovers and scooping up four ground balls in the Sea Gulls' 20-10 victory over Mary Washington. Murphy and the SU defense limited the Eagles to a season-low 19 shots in the win.

York is ranked No. 2, Salisbury is ranked No. 7, and Christopher Newport is ranked No. 16 in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) rankings ... CNU junior Drew Cornell led the Captains with 12 ground balls and forced four turnovers during the squad's two games last week. Against Mary Washington on Wednesday, he equaled his career-high with seven ground balls while also forcing three turnovers, which matched his best effort this season. On Saturday, he came back with five more ground balls and another caused turnover against No. 2 York,. Along with his defensive efforts, Cornell scored a 75-yard goal against the nationally-ranked Spartans after converting a long-range shot against a 10-man ride in the first quarter ... Junior Shane McKenzie posted seven points in two contests for Mary Washington this week. He scored three assists at Christopher Newport, and added two goals and two assists against Salisbury ... Salisbury sophomore Griffin Moroney posted team-highs in goals and assists in a20-10 victory over Mary Washington. Moroney netted four goals, tying his season-high mark for the year, while also dishing out two assists to post a season-best six points ... Southern Virginia sophomore Shawn Lamb tied his season-high five goals at Frostburg State and dished an assist, marking his eighth game this season with three or more goals. Lamb has scored in every contest this year for the Knights and is tied for the CAC lead in both goals (39) and assists (36). Senior Derek Lamb earned the win in his first start in goal of the season, saving 16 goals in a near complete game against Wesley ... Wesley junior defender Zach Weitzel scored the game-winning goal with 46 seconds left to beat Marymount on Wednesday. James Cella stopped 20 shots in a 1-1 week for the Wolverines ... York freshman long stick midfielder Tyler Nation helped lead the Spartans to a pair of wins for the week as they downed St. Mary's at home followed by a road win at CNU. Nation recorded five ground balls and a caused turnover in the win over St. Mary's. He followed that with five more ground balls and a caused turnover in the road win over nationally ranked Christopher Newport. Senior captain Dillon Hannah scored eight goals last week to lead the Spartan attack. For the year, Hannah has 29 points on 24 goals and five assists.
