Christopher Newport and Frostburg State Notch Home Wins, Advance to CAC Men's Lacrosse Semifinals

CAC Men's Lacrosse Tournament Bracket

Third-seeded Christopher Newport and fourth-seeded Frostburg State each defended their home fields in Saturday's CAC Men's Lacrosse Tournament first round, earning spots in Tuesday's semifinals.

CNU downed sixth-seeded Mary Washington 14-7 in Newport News, Va., sending the Captains to the semifinals for the third straight season. Dylan Rice led the CNU attack with a game-high five goals, with Drew Magnusson adding three goals and an assist in the victory.

The Captains (14-3) will travel to second-seeded Salisbury (14-3) for Tuesday's semifinals. Salisbury edged CNU 6-5 in the regular season matchup between the two sides on Apr. 4.

In Frostburg, Md. host Frostburg State earned a trip to the CAC semifinals with a 14-9 win over Southern Virginia. The Bobcats (10-8) earned a spot in the semifinals for the fourth time in five years behind nine second-half goals that proved too much for the visiting Knights. Nate Collins (4g, 2a) and Adam Gross (3g, 2a) led the Bobcats attack.

The win advances Frostburg to second-ranked and top-seed York on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The Bobcats dropped their regular-season matchup with the Spartans, 8-6, and Tuesday's meeting will be the first in the CAC Tournament between the two schools.
