St. Mary's Junior Max Groen and Salisbury Sophomore Brandon Warren Receive CAC Men's Lacrosse Weekly Awards

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- St. Mary's junior Max Groen and Salisbury sophomore Brandon Warren received CAC Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week awards for March 12, 2018.  

Offensive Player of the Week

St. Mary's junior Max Groen earned CAC Offensive Player of the Week honors after tallying 11 points on eight goals and three assists in a 1-1 week for the Seahawks. Groen notched career-bests of six goals, including a career-high three man-up goals, two assists, and eight points plus a season-best four ground balls in a 15-5 win over Marywood. He totaled two goals and an assist in a 12-10 loss to Randolph-Macon. He finished the week with eight goals on just nine shots for a 88.9% shooting percentage.

Salisbury sophomore goalkeeper Brandon Warren was named the CAC Defensive Player of the Week after registering a 4.79 goals against average in a pair of wins last week. Making the first two starts of his collegiate career, Warren totaled a 52.9% save percentage and nine saves in wins over Kenyon and Stevenson. He opened the week by allowing just one goal with three saves in slightly over 40 minutes played against Kenyon. Warren then closed out the week with six saves in a 9-7 victory over 15th-ranked Stevenson.

York is ranked No. 4, Salisbury is ranked No. 8, and Christopher Newport is ranked No. 18 in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) rankings ... CNU senior Matthew Crist registered his second straight hat-trick after scoring three times during an 8-7 win over Elizabethtown. All three of his goals came during the squad's second-half comeback, including the final two strikes of the game to seal the victory ... Frostburg State sophomore Jack Marks tied a career-high with 14 saves in the Bobcats' loss to No. 6 Cabrini ... Mary Washington senior Owen Dingman scored two goals and added two asisst in a loss to Washington & Lee, and posted a goal and an assist at Catholic in an overtime loss last week ... Marymount junior Christian Lutz went 21-for-37 at the faceoff position last week. He currently sits second in the CAC in faceoff wins, with 81 to this point ... St. Mary's Ross Snodderly recorded his third double-digit save game of the season in a tough 12-10 loss to Randolph-Macon before needing just four stops for his third win of the season vs. Marywood. Snodderly currently ranks third in the CAC in saves (62) and fifth in save percentage (.492) ... Salisbury's Garrett Reynolds netted a team-high five goals in a 9-7 victory over No. 15 Stevenson. It marked third time this season Reynolds has scored five or more goals in a game. For the season Reynolds now has a team and conference-high 22 goals while posting a season mark of 66.7 shot on goal percentage. ... Southern Virginia freshman Ty Veres led the Knights with a hat trick against Merchant Marine and was one of seven players to score against Rhodes ... Junior defender Ben Mitzel led the Wesley defense with nine caused turnovers and seven ground balls in two games on the week ... York fell 8-6 to No. 5 Gettysburg and bounced back with a 13-4 win over Susquehanna last week. Joey Fiorino totaled four caused turnovers while Thomas Pfeiffer notched six points in the two games. For the year, Pfeiffer leads the Spartans with 30 points on 14 goals and 16 assists.
