Salisbury's Malamphy Named CAC Men's Lacrosse Player of the Year; York's Michael & Childs Collect Major Awards
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Salisbury senior Brett Malamphy, York freshman Jack Michael and York head coach Brandon Childs collected major awards to lead the 2019 All-CAC Men's Lacrosse Team. Salisbury led all teams with 10 all-star selections, followed by York (9), Christopher Newport (6), Southern Virginia (2), and Frostburg State who earned one honoree.
Malamphy, a faceoff specialist, was named CAC Player of the Year after leading Salisbury by going 106-for-131 (80.9%) in faceoffs during conference play and scooped up a CAC-leading 70 ground balls this season. He becomes the fifth straight and 17th overall Sea Gull to claim conference Player of the Year accolades.
Michael, a goalkeeper, was selected as CAC Rookie of the Year following a stellar freshman campaign in net for the Spartans. Michael posted the best goals-against average in overall contests (7.03) and second-best in CAC action (7.24). He is the fifth York player to earn Rookie of the Year honors. Michael also earned second-team all-conference laurels.
Childs, who guided the Spartans to their second-consecutive CAC regular season title, collects CAC Coach of the Year honors for the third-straight season and fourth time overall throughout his tenure at York. He is now one of just three coaches in CAC history to win the award four times, joining only Salisbury's Jim Berkman (10) in that elite club.
Salisbury landed a conference-best 10 players on the All-CAC squad, including seven on the first team. York secured nine spots on the All-CAC team, with five players on both the first and four on the second team. Christopher Newport placed six players on the All-CAC squad for the second straight season.
