FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- York senior Hunter Davis & junior Nick Roman swept CAC Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week awards for April 22, 2019.

Offensive Player of the Week

York senior Hunter Davis led the Spartans to a 2-0 week including an 11-9 win over undefeated and #1 Salisbury on Wednesday. Davis began the week with seven points on five goals and two assists in the win over the Sea Gulls. He also had two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Davis followed that with six points on four goals and two assists in the 18-7 win over Mary Washington in the Spartans' CAC finale. Davis finished the week with 13 points on nine goals and four assists to go along with two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Davis continues to climb the career charts for the Spartans. He ranks fourth in career points (220), second in goals (157), and eighth in assists (63).

York junior Nick Roman led the Spartan defensive effort in a pair of Capital Athletic Conference wins including a win at #1 Salisbury on Wednesday. In the win over the Gulls, Roman had five ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers in the 11-9 win over the previously unbeaten Salisbury. He followed that performance with three ground balls in the Saturday win over Mary Washington as the Spartans finished the CAC with a perfect 6-0 mark. Roman is second on the team in ground balls as he has scooped up 43 ground balls for the year. He also has registered 14 caused turnovers.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Christopher Newport's Dylan Rice posted his 12th hat-trick of the year after registering three goals during a victory over St. Mary's (Md.) on Wednesday. His first strike marked the 100th goal of his career, becoming the fourth player in program history to reach that milestone. Accomplishing the feat in his 37th career game, he also became the fastest Captain to reach that mark, besting former teammate Matt Crist's previous record by 16 contests...Christopher Newport's Scott McAneney registered 16 saves during a 14-6 victory over St. Mary's (Md.) on Wednesday. During the contest, the junior allowed just six goals before exiting the game in the 55th minute with a comfortable lead. That performance marked only the third time since 2013 that a Captain recorded at least 15 saves and allowed fewer than seven goals in a single game. McAneney also matched his career-high with two caused turnovers and collected three ground balls during a well-rounded effort....St. Mary's Abe Hubbard led the Seahawks on the offensive end with seven points off of six goals and one assist. Hubbard recorded a career-high five goals in a 13-5 victory over Frostburg on Apr. 20. In addition, Hubbard collected two ground balls...St. Mary's Anthony Sparacino led the Seahawks defense with seven ground balls and three caused turnovers. Sparacino recorded five ground balls and two caused turnovers in a 13-5 victory over Frostburg on Apr. 20....Frostburg's Matthew Ward registered eight points in two games for Frostburg last week ... He started the week with four goals and two assists in a 21-16 win over Southern Virginia...Salisbury's Cross Ferrara turned in a solid week for the maroon and gold as he recorded at least a point in both games for the Sea Gulls. Against Southern Virginia University Ferrara turned in a career-best and team-best performance with seven total points netting goals and dishing out one assist. Ferrara had a hand in each of Salisbury's first four goals netting three unassisted markers before dishing out his lone assist for the afternoon to help Salisbury build a 7-1 run after the first quarter. For the week Ferrara finished with 16 total shots placing 11 of them on cage for SOG% of .688 while adding in a game winning tally as well as one man-up marker...Salisbury's Brett Malamphy turned in another exceptional week for the maroon and gold as he was once again dominant from the faceoff X. For the week Malamphy won 38-of-48 faceoffs for a win percentage of .792 while scooping up a team best 22 groundballs. Against No. 3 York, despite the loss, Malamphy won 17-of-24 faceoffs for a win percentage of .708. Then against Southern Virginia Malamphy lost just three faceoffs the entire game posting his third 20-plus faceoff win performance of the season and second in three games. He currently ranks first in the CAC in both faceoff wins and groundballs with 229 and 132 respectively...Mary Washington's Chase Kapuscienski scored a pair of goals in leading Mary Washington at York. He posted three ground balls as well...Southern Virginia's Zach Danneman tallied six goals for the week with an assists to pick up a team-high for the week with seven points...Southern Virginia's Ian Arave registered a career-high at No. 1 Salisbury with 24 saves while totaling 46 saves in two games for the Knights.
