FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Salisbury senior Corey Gwin & sophomore Matt O'Callaghan swept the CAC Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week awards for April 8, 2019.

Offensive Player of the Week

Salisbury senior Corey Gwin was instrumental in the the top ranked Sea Gulls 21-6 victory over Frostburg State University as he posted a team-best eight point performance. Gwin tied for the team-high in goals with four while dishing out four assists as well. Gwin totaled 13 total shots placing five on cage for a SOG% of .385. Gwin totaled four of his eight points in an eight-goal first quarter for the maroon and gold finding the back of the net twice while dishing out two assists. This is the fifth game this season that Gwin has recorded five or more points, while his now 37 goals are tied for first on the team and his 54 points ranks second. This marks the fourth time this season Gwin has collected CAC Player of the Week honors.

Defensive Player of the Week

Matt O'Callaghan | Salisbury | So. | LSM

Salisbury sophomore Matt O'Callaghan was a key contributor on the defensive end in Salisbury's 21-6 win over Frostburg State University. O'Callaghan was part a defensive unit that caused 11 Bobcat turnovers while forced a team-high four. He also scooped up four groundballs as part a team effort that saw the Sea Gulls pick up 55 total. The defense was outstanding limiting Frostburg St. to six goals, marking the sixth straight game and seventh time this season the maroon and gold have held a team to six goals or fewer. The defense also held the Bobcats scoreless for 32:18 of game action on Saturday afternoon, while shutting out the home team in the third quarter.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

York's Hunter Davis led the Spartan offensive explosion as he recorded seven points on four goals and three assists in the Spartans' road win at St. Mary's College. Davis added a ground ball in the win. Davis's four goals tied his career high while his seven points were a new season high. Davis is now one point short of becoming the fourth Spartan to reach 200 career points as he sits at 199 points (141 goals and 58 assists)...Frostburg State's Michael Sipes posted five points last week in two games for Frostburg...St. Mary's Jude Brown led the Seahawks on the offensive end with four points off of two goals and two assists. In addition, Brown collected two ground balls...Christopher Newport's Scott McAneney posted 29 saves during the week, including 19 during a victory over Mary Washington on Saturday. That equaled his career-high and matched the third-highest single-game total in program history. With his 29 saves during the week, he also bumped his career total to 323. He joins former standouts Andy McGregor and Matt Hayden as the only Captains with at least 300 career stops...York's Ryan Kennedy paced a strong defensive effort for the Spartans in the win over St. Mary's. The Green and White held St. Mary's to six goals in the first three quarters including holding the Seahawks off the scoreboard in the decisive second quarter as York outscored their hosts 5-0. Kennedy had two ground balls and a team-high three caused turnovers in the win for the Green and White.
