FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Salisbury senior midfielder Corey Gwin and York senior defender Kevin Witchey earned CAC Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week awards for Feb. 12, 2019.  

Offensive Player of the Week

Salisbury senior midfielder Corey Gwin has score a team-best five goals through two games this season including netting a hat trick against No. 20 University of Lynchburg on Saturday, February 9. Gwin scored two goals in the season opener one at even strength and one on the man up unit in a 9-7 victory over Berry College and then followed up that performance netting three against the Hornets, including two on the man up unit. Gwin has aided a man up unit that is 5-of-7 (71.4%) on the season accounting for three of the five goals scored.

York senior defender Kevin Witchey spearheaded a Spartan defense that led the Green and White to a 7-6 win over #12 Washington & Lee on Saturday in York. Witchey was charged with defending All-American A.J. Witherell. Witchey limited Witherell to just one goal in the game as he forced two Witherell turnovers in the game. Witherell, the 2018 ODAC Player of the Year, was a first team All-American last year as he scored a school record 91 points on 60 goals and 31 assists. The Spartans limited the Generals to just six goals after W&L averaged 13.9 goals per game last year.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

St. Mary's Tommy Rinder led the Seahawks defense that only allowed five goals against Marywood. Caused a team-best three turnovers and led the team in ground balls with four...St. Mary's Erich Wuesthoff led the team in goals with four in a dominant 17-5 victory over Marywood. Also scooped up one ground ball....Salisbury's Brandon Warren has been solid thus far this season for the maroon and gold helping the second ranked Sea Gulls out to a 2-0 start. Warren has 24 total saves over the first two games including a career-high 17 against Berry College in the season-opening 9-7 win. Warren has averaged a 60% save percentage through two games, which is six percentage points above his sophomore season campaign mark of 54.1%...York's Hunter Davis led the Spartans to a 7-6 win over #12 Washington & Lee on Saturday in the Spartans' season opener. Davis tallied his first goal with 3:25 left in the first quarter to put York up 2-1. The goal was a slick behind the back goal off a pass from Dylan Wolf. Davis notched his assist on the Spartans' first goal of the second quarter as he assisted Gunnar Reynolds' score at the 10:53 mark of the second quarter. Davis then put the Spartans up for good when he notched York's sixth goal with 7:37 left in the third quarter. The goals were Davis' 117th and 118th career goals as he now has 159 career points, good for sixth on the Spartans' all-time scoring list. His 118 goals rank him fourth all-time, just two back of third place (Josh Gamble-120)...Mary Washington's Chris White scored three goals and freshman Dyson Adams added two in Mary Washington's 14-7 loss at Hampden-Sydney.
