FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Southern Virginia's Shawn Lamb & Ian Arave earned CAC Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week awards for Feb. 18, 2019.

Offensive Player of the Week

Shawn Lamb | Southern Virginia | Jr. | A

Buena Vista, Va. | Rockbridge County HS

Southern Virginia junior attacker Shawn Lamb led the Knights go undefeated in the first week of the season going 2-0 with victories over Catholic University and Pfeiffer University. He totaled 13 points for the week averaging 4.5 goals per game, two assists while shooting 60 percent and collecting six ground balls. 

 

Defensive Player of the Week

Houston, Texas | Cypress Woods HS

Southern Virginia senior goalkeeper Arave anchored the Knights defense going 2-0 picking up wins against Catholic University and Pfeiffer University. He tallied 25 saves and earned a 56.8 save percentage at goal.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

York's Ryan Kennedy led another strong Spartan defensive effort in York's win over Eastern University on Saturday. Kennedy caused two turnovers and picked up five ground balls for the Spartans in the win. Kennedy led a defense that limited Eastern to just three goals over the final 30 minutes of play. For the year, Kennedy is second on the team in ground balls with nine while he leads the team with five caused turnovers...Mary Washington's Billy Senicola led Mary Washington to a 14-8 win at Shenandoah on Friday, allowing four goals in 45 minutes on 11 shots faced...Christopher Newport's Scott McAneney played all 120 minutes during the squad's opening week action against two programs that advanced to last year's NCAA Tournament. On Friday, in a 16-9 win over Colorado College, he made 16 saves, marking the second-highest single-game total of his career. With that performance, he also became the first CNU goalie in three years to record at least 15 saves and allow fewer than 10 goals in a single contest. The junior also added 11 saves during the season-opener at No. 12 Washington & Lee on Wednesday...Salisbury's Josh Melton turned in a exceptional performance for the maroon and gold against Widener University on Saturday afternoon. Melton had a hand in nine of the 16 total goals Salisbury scored against the Pride scoring a team-best four while also dishing out a team-high five assists in the 16-3 win. His nine total points were also a team-high for the afternoon and he currently sits first on the team in points with 14 while he is second on the team in goals and assists with eight and six respectively. He is also currently atop the CAC in points and second in assists...York's Brendan McGrath had a record tying game on Saturday in the win over Eastern University. McGrath notched seven goals and dished out two assists for nine points in the game. He notched a man-up goal while he also had three ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. McGrath notched his seven goals on just nine shots. He started the game with York's first two goals as he tied the game for the Green and White late in the first quarter. He scored the final goal of the first half as the tally put the Spartans up 6-5 at the break. McGrath had two goals and an assist in the big third quarter for York as the Spartans outscored the Eagles 8-1. He closed out his day with a man up goal with 8:42 left in the game. The seven goals ties the school record that has been reached five times including his seven goals two years ago against Aurora. His nine points tie him for second on the all-time single game list. McGrath is tied for the team lead in points with 11 while he leads the squad in goals with nine...Mary Washington's Chris White led Mary Washington to a 14-8 win at Shenandoah on Friday, scoring a career high seven goals on 12 shots. Through two games, he has scored 10 goals, after leading the Eagles with 37 a season ago...St. Mary's Jude Brown led team with four goals in 13-10 loss to #10 Dickinson, while St. Mary's senior goalkeeper Ross Snodderly had a career-best 21 saves.
