FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Salisbury's Corey Gwin & Kevin Murphy earned CAC Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week awards for Feb. 25, 2019.

Offensive Player of the Week

Corey Gwin turned in an impressive performance in No. 2 Salisbury's, 17-10, victory over No. 6 Gettysburg College on Saturday, February 23. Gwin scored a team-best four goals and tallied another team-high six points in the victory. Gwin totaled just six shots in the contest placing five on net pumping four in to score on 80% percent of the shots he took. Gwin would also tally six groundballs to add to his stat line. The four goals marks the second time this season Gwin has tallied a hat trick and is the fourth time Gwin has scored four or more goals in his career in the maroon and gold. 

 

Defensive Player of the Week

Kevin Murphy helped lead the Salisbury defensive effort in the Sea Gulls 17-10 victory over No. 6 Gettysburg. The Bullets came in averaging 19 goals per game through their first two games of 2019 but were limited to 10 in the top-10 clash. Murphy caused a team-best four turnovers while scooping up two groundballs. He also racked up an assist to aid in the offensive outburst.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Christopher Newport's Scott McAneney came through with his third consecutive double-digit save effort of the year after notching 14 stops during a victory at Hampden-Sydney on February 23. During his appearance against the Tigers, he also caused two turnovers and grabbed three ground balls while surrendering only six goals in 57 minutes of action. Aided by his 14 stops on Saturday, the junior moved to third on the program's career saves list with 180...York's Thomas Pfeiffer had a big game in the #7 Spartans' 14-8 road win at McDaniel on Saturday in York's lone game of the week. Pfeiffer tallied a season-high seven points on four goals and three assists in leading the Spartan offense. He scored his four goals on just five shots in the win. Pfeiffer started the Spartan offense with a pair of first period goals to put the Spartans on top early. Pfeiffer's third goal put the Green and White back on top after the Green Terror tied the game at four. Pfeiffer picked up three assists during the Spartans' 4-1 third quarter. His final goal closed out the scoring for the Spartans in the fourth quarter. Pfeiffer is second on the team in scoring with 14 points on eight goals and six assists...Mary Washington's Shane McKenzie scored three goals and added two assists in each of Mary Washington's overtime games this week, to total six goals and four assists...Southern Virginia's Zach Danneman led the Knights offense scoring nine points by way of six goals and three assists. He collected six ground balls for the week for the Knights' 1-1 week...Southern Virginia's Ian Arave totaled 39 saves for the week and a 60.9 save percentage.
