York's Sasso & Salisbury's Gwin Earn Academic All-District Honors

York College senior faceoff specialist Billy Sasso and Salisbury senior attacker Corey Gwin have earned Google Cloud Academic All-District IV honors as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Wednesday for their performances both in the classroom and on the field of competition.

Sasso is an outstanding student as he owns a 3.81 GPA as a mechanical engineering major. Sasso is a six-time member of the York College Dean's List. He joins a group of just ten student-athletes on the All-District team.

Sasso concluded his outstanding Spartan career as a two-time All-CAC performer earning first team as a junior and second team as a senior. He was also an honorable mention All-American as a junior. Sasso is third all-time in career faceoff winning percentage as .598 as well as the program's all-time leader in career faceoff wins with 757. He also finished his career with seven goals and four assists and 395 ground balls.

His senior season was another stellar one for Sasso as he won 252 faceoffs for a .616 winning percentage while also scoring three goals and three assists. He leaves the program as a member of the winningest class in York College history with a 73-14 combined four-year record.

Gwin, a native from Berlin, Maryland, completed his time at Salisbury with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.70 as an Environmental Science major.

For his efforts on the field this past season, Gwin was recognized by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association as he was named the Fran McCall Outstanding Midfielder of the Year while also being named a First Team All-American. He finished his season with 88 points, which ranked second on the team, totaling 63 goals and 25 assists. He was also named first-team All-Capital Athletic Conference for the second consecutive season.  

Gwin rounds out his career in the maroon and gold appearing in 81 games, scoring 138 goals, and dishing out 55 assists for a total of 193 career points.

The Academic All-American program honor student-athletes who are at least a sophomore and owns a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or above while they also must be significant contributor to their respective teams. The Academic All-American program dates back to 1952 and has honors thousands of deserving student-athletes from numerous sports across all divisions.

Sasso and Gwin will now advance to the Google Cloud All-America ballot. The winners will be announced in June.
