FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Frostburg State first-year midfielder Matthew Ward & York's freshman goalkeeper Jack Michael earned CAC Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week awards for March 11, 2019.

Offensive Player of the Week

Frostburg State first-year Matthew Ward registered 11 points on nine goals and two assists last week as Frostburg finished 2-0 on the week...Ward capped the week with six goals and two assists in a 16-7 Bobcat win over SUNY Oneonta.

 

Defensive Player of the Week

York's freshman goalkeeper Jack Michael had a pair of fantastic performances for the week to spearhead a 2-0 week for the Green and White. In the top ten showdown at #8 Gettysburg, Michael made 11 saves and held the high-flying Bullet offense to a mere six goals. He faced 16 first quarter shots from the Bullets and made five saves to keep the Spartans in the game. He allowed just three goals the rest of the game in earning the win. Michael followed that with three goals allowed in three quarters of play in York's 12-4 win over Susquehanna on Saturday. For the year, Michael owns a 7.20 goals against average and a 56.0% save percentage in his six wins.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

In Christopher Newport's lone appearance of the week, Max Wayne led the Captains to a 10-6 win at Elizabethtown. During the game, he established new career-highs with six caused turnovers and five ground balls. His six caused turnovers equaled the fourth-highest single-game total in program history and marked his fifth consecutive game with at least three caused turnovers. That streak stands as the longest in CNU history. Overall, Wayne paced a defensive unit that eventually finished with 23 caused turnovers, marking the second-highest total in program history. That effort helped the Captains limit Elizabethtown to just a single goal in the second half as CNU overcame a halftime deficit to secure the win...Mary Washington's Robert Tata registered 11 ground balls in in UMW's two contests this week, surpassing 200 career ground balls in UMW's 12-11 overtime win against Catholic… Senior Shane McKenzie registered one goal and six assists in UMW's 12-11 overtime win on Saturday, including a helper on the game winner from Cameron Walker...Salisbury's Brandon Warren was solid in Salisbury's 14-9 victory over Stevenson University on March 9. Warren recorded his third double-digit save performance of the season. Warren finished the night with 13 saves recording a save percentage of .591, which is his second-highest save percentage of the season. Warren currently ranks in the top three in three different categories, ranking third in save percentage (.589), first in goals against (39), and second in goals against average (7.46)...Salisbury's Cross Ferrara turned a solid performance against out of conference rival Stevenson University tying his career-high, scoring four goals in the 14-9 win. Ferrara totaled three goals in the second quarter, including back-to-back markers less than two minutes apart to help give the maroon and gold a 6-3 halftime lead. Ferrara would add his final tally of the night as part of a six-goal third quarter for Salisbury, firing home a man up tally. For the contest Ferrara totaled nine shots placing five on cage for a SOG% of .556....York's Hunter Davis powered a balanced offensive attack as the sixth ranked Spartans improved to 6-0 with a pair of wins including a road victory at #8 Gettysburg on Wednesday. In the win over the Bullets, Davis tallied three points on two goals and an assist. He also had two ground balls in the win. He followed that with five points on four goals and an assist in the victory at Susquehanna. For the year, Davis leads the Spartans in scoring with 25 points on 14 goals and 11 assists. He also has 10 ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers in six games...Mary Washington's Shane McKenzie registered one goal and six assists in UMW's 12-11 overtime win on Saturday, including a helper on the game winner from Cameron Walker...
