FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Salisbury junior attacker Josh Melton & Christopher Newport sophomore defender Max Wayne earned CAC Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week awards for March 18, 2019.

Junior Josh Melton helped No. 1 Salisbury to extend its record to a 8-0 after victories of Illinois Wesleyan University and Montclair State University by scores of 22-6 and 23-1. Against the Titans Melton tied his career high in points totaling 10 netting a new career-high and a team-best six while adding in four assists. He followed up that performance with a five-goal outing against Montclair St. ti tie the team-high in points with five. In two games he totaled 17 shots placing 15 on goal for a SOG% of .882. He currently boosts a team-best 39 points which ranks third in the CAC and his 16 assists rank second on the team and fourth in the CAC

Christopher Newport sophomore defender Max Wayne led the Captains with nine caused turnovers and eight ground balls during a pair of victories last week. On Wednesday against Washington (Md.), he caused six turnovers, which equaled his career-high and matched the fourth-highest single-game total in program history. Three days later, he came back with three more caused turnovers and a career-high seven ground balls at Catholic on Saturday. His 29 caused turnovers this year already rank third on the program's all-time single-season list.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Kevin Murphy helped No. 1 Salisbury to a 2-0 week as the Sea Gulls downed visiting Illinois Wesleyan University 22-6 and visiting Montclair State University 23-1. In two game the defense allowed just seven goals (3.5 GPG) and forced a combined 47 turnovers while causing 26. Murphy posted a team-best two caused turnovers against Montclair State while scooping up six groundballs against the Red Hawks and five against the Titans. The one goal surrendered against Montclair St. marks the first time since March 11, 2017 that the Sea Gulls have held an opponent to one marker when they posted a 14-1 win over Washington College...York's Jack Michael registered a career-high tying 12 saves in the win over Stevenson ... reached double figures in saves for the fifth time in eight games with two double figure save games this weekend ... had a career-high 75% save percentage in the win over Stevenson as he had 12 saves and only four goals allowed in the win...Frostburg State's Michael Sipes capped a 2-0 week for Frostburg with seven goals and two assists, including a five-goal, one-assist effort in a 16-6 victory over Goucher...Mary Washington's Chris White tallied four goals and two assists in a loss to Illinois Wesleyan, and added four scores and one assist in a 15-10 win over Susquehanna. For the week, he totalled eight goals and three assists for 11 points...Christopher Newport's Dylan Rice led the Captains with 11 points during a historic week for the sophomore. On Saturday at Catholic, he registered seven points, which matched his career-high and equaled the 10th-highest single-game total in program history. His first point of the game also marked the 100th of his career. Reaching that milestone in only his 28th career appearance, he became the fastest Captain to accomplish that feat, beating former teammate Matt Crist, who notched his 100th point in his 35th contest. Earlier in the week, Rice also contributed four points in a win over Washington (Md.). His final goal came with three seconds left in the third overtime period to cap off the longest game in CNU history...York's Thomas Pfeiffer had another strong week for the Green and White as the Spartans split their two games at the challenging Stevenson Mustang Classic on Friday and Saturday. In the Spartans' game against #2 RIT on Friday, Pfeiffer netted a pair of goals in addition to a ground ball and a caused turnover for York. In the Saturday win over Stevenson, Pfeiffer notched three goals and an assist for four points. He also had two ground balls for the Green and White. For the season, Pfeiffer leads York with 29 points on 19 goals and 10 assists. He also has 11 ground balls and three caused turnovers...St. Mary's Max Groen led the Seahawks with 11 points this week, including a team-best eight points in a victory over Washington College. Groen recorded four goals and four assists in the Seahawks first-ever victory over the Shoremen. In addition, Groen eclipsed the 100 point mark during the victory over Washington College...Southern Virginia's Zach Danneman has been a on a terror for the Knights accounting for 14 goals and four assists totaling 18 points. For the week, Danneman dropped seven goals and two assists against Connecticut College and Carthage while shooting 66.7 and 76.2 percent when on goal. He also collected nine ground balls for the week.
