Salisbury & York Victorious in NCAA Men's Lacrosse Tournament Second Round Matches

Salisbury and York earned second round victories after first round byes to begin 2019 NCAA Men's Lacrosse Tournament action on Wednesday (May 8). 

The Sea Gulls and Spartans, two of the sixteen remaining teams, will now play in the third round on Saturday, May 11. Salisbury will battle Lynchburg, while York will host Washington and Lee in the Sweet 16.

Salisbury proved to be far superior to visiting Maritime (N.Y.) and ran away with a 19-4 victory. Corey Gwin registered a game-high four goals and one assist, while Josh Melton posted three goals and five assists in the win. The Sea Gulls gained a 53-22 advantage on ground balls and forced 28 turnovers. Salisbury fired 74 shots in the contest compared to 22 for Martime.

York registered an 18-11 victory over Stockton at Kinsley Field thanks to a strong fourth-quarter defensive effort from the Spartans. The contest was tied 7-7 at the halftime break before York took a two-point edge into the final quarter in which the Spartans posted a 6-1 advantage to pull away, including the final five goals of the contest. Gunnar Reynolds paced York a team-high four goals and one assist, while Thomas Pfeiffer posted three goals and three assists in the win.
