11 CAC Men's Soccer Players Named To NSCAA All-Region Team
Eleven CAC men's soccer players, including five York players and one from Salisbury who were first-team honorees, were named to the 2008 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-South Region team.
York seniors Kyle Marks (GK), Evan Scheffey (defense), Chris Ports (midfield), junior Jon Ports (forward) and freshman Kemal Nuspahic (forward) were named to the first-team all-region squad along with Salisbury junior midfielder Kyle Sterling.
Second-team all-region picks include Mary Washington senior defender David Rodriguez and York sophomore midfielder Lucas Emil.
Third-team all-region selections were Wesley sophomores Nicholas Talerico (GK) and Craig Taswell (defense) along with Salisbury sophomore midfielder Michael Napolitano.
York's six all-region selections were all named to the CAC all-conference team and helped the Spartans post an 18-0-2 overall record this season.
Sterling and Napolitano were also first-team All-CAC choices and helped the Sea Gulls to a 15-4-3 overall record and the 2008 CAC title. Salisbury's second-straight CAC crown was the team's seventh in the last 10 years.
Rodriguez helped UMW place second in the CAC regular-season standings and finish with a 9-5-3 overall mark.
Taswell, a first-team All-CAC choice, and Talerico, the second-team all-conference keeper, helped Wesley to an 11-8-3 overall record, a berth in the CAC championship game and a trip to the ECAC South playoff tournament.
