Stevenson Downs Lebanon Valley, 3-1, To Advance In ECAC South Men's Soccer Tournament; Mustangs Will Host Weekend Championship

scored twice while sophomore Ansger Otto added a
goal and an assist as the Mustangs scored three unanswered goals en
route to a 3-1 victory over Lebanon Valley Wednesday at Caves
Athletics Complex in the first round
of the ECAC Division III South Championship.
With the win, the Mustangs (12-5-3) equaled their win total from a
year ago and advanced to the ECAC semifinals fo the second-straight
season. The school record for wins in a season is 15 set by the
2005 squad that went 15-4-1.
Stevenson will face Bethany (W.V.) on Saturday in the semifinals at
the Caves Athletic Complex in Owings Mills, Md. The
Bison knocked off top-seeded Penn State Behrend on the road
Wednesday, 4-3.
Wednesday at Stevenson, Lebanon Valley (9-9-1) took an
early lead just 1:05 into the game when Justin Hutchinson scored
far post after running on to a through ball by Kelly Hess.
However, the Mustangs quickly responded as Scarselletta scored the
first of his two goals off of a deflected pass from senior Matthew
Liska only 1:34 later, tying the game at 1-1.
After two goals in the first two-and-a-half minutes, neither team
was able to take a lead into halftime despite Lebanon Valley
holding a 13-4 advantage in shots in the first half.
The game would remain tied at 1-1 until the 73rd minute when
Scarselletta picked up his second goal of the game and second
game-winner this season off an assist from Otto on a corner
kick.
Wednesday marked the first multi-goal game of Scarselletta's career
in his 79th appearance.
With just over three minutes remaining, Otto scored his CAC-leading
16th goal of the season after dribbling down the left side and
around Dutchmen keeper James Clements before sliding the ball into
the open net.
Otto also leads the conference with 43 points and 11 assists.
Junior Ryan Flannelly recorded four saves for the Mustangs who
improved their record to 9-1-2 at home this season.
Clements finished with one save for Lebanon Valley.
Game time for Saturday's semifinal contest between Stevenson and
Bethany will be announced on Thursday.
