The No. 25 Salisbury University men's soccer team saw its 2011 season come to a close on Thursday in the first round of the NCAA Tournament as Neumann University advanced past the Sea Gulls on penalty kicks after playing to a 0-0 draw. Neumann won the penalty kick shootout 5-4, with each team attempting six shots.

The majority of the ball control in the first half took place in the midfield, but the Sea Gulls had an edge in scoring opportunities by outshooting the Knights 8-2. Without a goal in the half, the teams took a 0-0 tie into the second half.

Salisbury (13-3-4) began to take more control of the game and continued to outshoot Neumann (13-4-1), 8-5, in the second half. By the end of regulation and both 10-minute overtime periods, the Gulls outshot the Knights 19-9. Of Salisbury's 19 shots, five were on goal.

In the shootout, both teams had four successful penalty kick attempts before Andy Attah put away the attempt that allowed Neumann to advance on its sixth try. Sophomore Chase Humphrey, junior Jeremy Moyer, sophomore Trevor Sharpe and junior Jimmy Deasel each converted a penalty kick attempt in the shootout for Salisbury.

Junior goalkeeper John Vnenchak played the entire 110 minutes and made four saves in the effort, as well as turning away one shot during the shootout.
