BUENA VISTA, Va.—Southern Virginia University Athletic Director Scott Y. Doxey today named Josh Patiño as the university's next head men's soccer coach.

"We are excited to have Josh lead our men's soccer program into a new era," Doxey said. "He is enthusiastic and passionate about the game and brings with him a wealth of experience and technical knowledge both as a coach and former player.

"We believe that Josh is the right person to build a men's soccer program here at Southern Virginia that will represent the university well and compete at a high level in the Capital Athletic Conference."

For the past four years, Patiño has experienced tremendous success as a member of the Utah Celtic FC girls soccer coaching staff. Last season, he helped guide the U16 Celtic team to a 25-game win streak and eventual 2013 Utah state championship.

With Celtic FC, Patiño helped identify, select, recruit and develop players. His duties also included scouting opponents, developing practice and game plans and guiding players through the college recruiting process.

"I'm ecstatic that I've been offered this opportunity," Patiño said. "It feels like the right time and the right place for me. I'm excited to work with the team and accomplish our goals together."

A member of the Brigham Young University men's soccer team from 2008-12, Patiño graduated from BYU with a bachelor's degree in exercise and wellness in December 2012.

Last November, Patiño was chosen by the Utah Olympic Development Program to help select the state's top 40 youth soccer players. Patiño has also served as the COO and co-founder of World Sports Partners, LLC — a sports management group focused on developing young athletes based in Orem, Utah — since 2012.

"My vision is to aim high and help this program achieve greatness," Patiño added. "The goal for this upcoming season is to be a top-six team in the CAC and qualify for the conference playoffs. Within a few years I would like Southern Virginia to be a regular contender for a conference title."

Patiño has a USSF National C coaching license and recently completed the certification process for a National Youth License.

He served a two-year mission (2006-2008) for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Las Vegas, Nev. and later worked as a zone coordinator at the LDS Missionary Training Center in Provo, Utah from 2011-13.
