Christopher Newport Men's Soccer Falls to Ohio Wesleyan in Penalty Kicks in NCAA Elite Eight

Facing a 2-0 deficit with time winding down in regulation, Christopher Newport put together a remarkable comeback with a pair of scores in the final five minutes to force overtime, but ultimately fell to Ohio Wesleyan 4-2 in penalty kicks in a dramatic NCAA Men's Soccer Elite Eight contest on Monday afternoon in Gambier, Ohio.

The Captains conclude the year at 19-3-5, while Ohio Wesleyan (17-4-4) advances to the Final Four.

CNU found itself in an early 1-0 hole as the Bishops' Kyle Baum finished the rebound off his own header in the fourth minute of play. OWU pushed its lead to 2-0 in the 57th minute on a penalty kick conversion from Colton Bloecher.

With the clock ticking down on the Captains' season, CNU came roaring back in the final minutes to push the contest into overtime. With just over four minutes remaining, Henry Gotay slipped a through-ball to the foot of Jimmy Grace in front of goal, and Grace found the back of the net to pull the Captains within 2-1.

On perhaps their last chance of the game, the Captains came through once again at the 89:18 mark as Gotay once again set up a teammate - this time with a lofted pass to Ryan Balfour, who settled it in the box and ripped home a strike to knot things up at 2-2.

After two scoreless overtime periods, the contest headed for penalty kicks, where the Bishops outlasted the Captains by a 4-2 margin.
