Christopher Newport's Grace and St. Mary's Kearson Collect United Soccer Coaches All-America Honors

United Soccer Coaches Men's All-America Team

Christopher Newport senior Jimmy Grace and St. Mary's junior Juwan Kearson received All-America honors from the United Soccer Coaches. Grace was named a first-team All-American for the second-straight year, while Kearson collected third-team accolades.

Grace is the first player in CNU history to claim top honors from the coaches' association multiple times in his career. Grace put together another sensational season to round out his career as a Captain in 2017. For the second straight year he was named the Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Year. One of the most decorated athletes in CAC history, Grace became the first player in conference history to win multiple Player of the Year honors and Rookie of the Year laurels during his career. Grace was CAC Rookie of the Year in 2013.

A four-time All-Conference pick, Grace notched a first team selection in 2017 after leading the league in scoring with a second consecutive 32-point season. He set a new career high with his conference-best 14 goals scored, tied for eighth most in a single season, and chipped in four assists during the year. His second 30+ point performance marked just the fifth time in program history that a player has eclipsed that mark twice in his career. For his career, he ranks tied for sixth in career goals (35) and tied for ninth in career points (87) in CNU lore.

Grace helped CNU post a 14-3-1 overall record in 2017, winning the CAC regular season crown with an 8-0-1 mark in conference play.

Kearson becomes the first-ever All-American for the Seahawk men's soccer program. He is now a two-time All-Region pick and three-time All-CAC honoree with his senior campaign still to be played. The 5-8 midfielder led the Seahawks with seven goals, 18 points, and four game-winning goals (61st in Division III) while dishing out a team second-best four assists. In the CAC, he ranks tied for second in game-winning goals, tied for fifth in goals, tied for seventh in points, and tied for ninth in assists.

Kearson picked up CAC Offensive Player of the Week honors on October 23 after scoring once in each game in a 2-0 week for the Seahawks. He netted the insurance goal in a 2-0 upset win over No. 16 University of Mary Washington, before notching the game-winner in a 2-0 victory against Wesley College. Kearson also picked up St. Mary's Athlete of the Month honors for October.

The Seahawks finished the 2017 campaign as the No. 2 seed in the CAC Tournament for just the third time in program history. St. Mary's posted an 11-7 overall record, including a program-best seven league wins, for its second straight 10-win season and third in the last four years. After earning a first-round bye, the Seahawks dropped a heartbreaking 1-0 decision to third-seeded Mary Washington in the semifinals of the CAC Tournament.
