Kilby, UMW Men's Soccer Staff Named South Atlantic Region Staff of the Year by United Soccer Coaches

United Soccer Coaches has named University of Mary Washington men's soccer head coach Jason Kilby and his staff as the 2018 South Atlantic Region Staff of the Year. 

The Eagles finished the season with a 14-1-5 overall record, captured the 2018 Capital Athletic Conference championship, were ranked all season in the top 20, and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second straight year. The Eagles rank second in the nation in save percentage (.909), fourth in team goals-against average (.380), and sixth in shutout percentage (.650). UMW set a school record for fewest losses in a season, as well as fewest goals allowed.

The United Soccer Coaches honors National and Regional Staffs of the Year for NCAA Division I, II and III, as well as NAIA, NCCAA and Junior Colleges. All winners receive a plaque in honor of their achievement and will be honored at the United Soccer Coaches Convention.


To qualify for consideration, a coach must be an individual United Soccer Coaches member. In order to vote for Regional and National Staff of the Year, the institution must be a College Services member. To qualify for Staff of the Year, coaching staff should exhibit the following:
  • Knowledge of the game (rules, systems, coaching philosophy)
  • Rapport with the team (respect of the players)
  • Team image (team conduct, style of play, performance)
  • Conduct on the field (positive behavior)
  • Work for coaches organization (meetings, committees)
  • Outside involvement (clinics, camps, conventions)
  • Community involvement (leagues, banquets)
  • Rapport with other coaches (cooperative, considerate)
  • Rapport with officials
  • Relationship with media (cooperative, considerate)
  • Service to United Soccer Coaches
