CNU's Kickbush, York's Kappes Selected CAC Men's Soccer Players of the Week

CNU's Kickbush, York's Kappes Selected CAC Men's Soccer Players of the Week

CAC -- The Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) has announced its weekly awards following the seventh week of the 2019 men's soccer season. Christopher Newport sophomore forward Lincoln Kickbush earned CAC Offensive Player of the Week accolades, while York freshman goalkeeper Josh Kappes claimed CAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Lincoln Kickbush - Christopher Newport

Christopher Newport sophomore forward Lincoln Kickbush assisted on the first goal and eventual game-winning goal against St. Mary's (Md.) before notching a goal of his own to open the scoring at Salisbury. Kickbush took four shots, putting two on frame and is the scoring leader for the Captains now with 14 points on six goals and two assists.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Josh Kappes - York (Pa.)

York freshman goalkeeper Josh Kappes made an immediate impact on the Spartans as he was inserted into the starting lineup last Wednesday against Salisbury and shut out the Sea Gulls with five saves in the Spartans' 1-0 win. The shutout came in his first collegiate start as he had previously played just 34:52 all season for York. Kappes followed that with three saves in the 1-0 win over Mary Washington Saturday. The number of saves is a bit deceptive as the Eagles had a staggering 13 corner kicks in the game. He made a number of stops on the corners, halting a scoring chances for UMW. He also saved a first half penalty kick to keep the game scoreless to that point. For the week, Kappes was 2-0 with two shutouts and eight saves in his 180 minutes of play.
