CNU's Cook & St. Mary's McRobie Capture CAC Men's Soccer Weekly Accolades

CAC -- The Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) has announced its weekly awards following the sixth week of the 2019 men's soccer season. St. Mary's senior forward Josh McRobie earned CAC Offensive Player of the Week accolades, while Christopher Newport senior defender Derek Cook claimed CAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Josh McRobie - St. Mary's (Md.)

St. Mary's senior forward Josh McRobie led the Seahawks to two pivotal CAC victories this week against York and Salisbury. The senior forward led the Seahawks with seven points, recording three goals and one assist. Additionally, McRobie tallied game-winning goals against York and Salisbury.


DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Derek Cook - Christopher Newport

Christopher Newport senior defender Derek Cook played all but eight minutes in a pair of conference wins this week as the Captains earned a pair of shutout victories in conference play. Also assisted two of four goals this week. Anchored a defense that shut out Southern Virginia and 11th-ranked Mary Washington. Tied for the team lead in scoring with 10 points on three goals and four assists.

LEAGUE NOTES

Christopher Newport sophomore Lincoln Kickbush scored both goals in a road win at Southern Virginia. Took five shots, and put four on-goal, as Christopher Newport picked up two wins in conference play, including a 2-0 shutout of #11 Mary Washington...Ryan Miller made four saves in net for Salisbury...Dolph Hegewisch and Josh Woozley each netted a goal for Salisbury during the week...York junior Zion Friday had a historic game on Saturday in the Spartan home win over Southern Virginia. Friday scored the first three goals of the game for a natural hat trick in the Spartan victory. He opened the scoring 28th minute as Friday found the back of the net. Travis Gould lofted a pass from near midfield that found Friday in the box and the junior finished off the chance for the 1-0 Spartan lead. Friday made it 2-0 just over five minutes later as he drove the left end line and slipped a shot between the post and Southern Virginia goalie Jacob Solis for the 2-0 lead. Friday capped his natural hat trick in the 41st minute. Keith Witherell sent a pass into the box from the wing and Friday settled the pass and one-timed a shot past Solis for the 3-0 York lead. That would be all for the day on Friday as he came out of the game and did not play the rest of the afternoon. For the year, he leads the Spartans in scoring with 17 points on eight goals and one assist with three game-winning goals...Mary Washington junior Kevin Conrad scored the game winner as #11 UMW topped Salisbury on Wednesday...
