St. Mary's Balogun & York's Bridegum Selected CAC Men's Soccer Players of the Week

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- The Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) has announced its weekly awards following the first week of the 2019 men's soccer season. St. Mary's senior forward Khalid Balogun earned CAC Offensive Player of the Week accolades, while York junior goalkeeper Billy Bridegum claimed CAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Khalid Balogun - St. Mary's (Md.)

St. Mary's senior forward Khalid Balogun led the Seahawks with eight points off of three goals and two assists. Balogun led the Seahawks to a 2-0 start to the season with victories over Gallaudet (5-1) and No. 18 Carnegie Mellon (3-2). Additionally, Balogun was named the MVP of the Elmer Lord Tournament hosted by Salisbury University.


DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Billy Bridegum - York (Pa.)

York junior goalkeeper Billy Bridegum led the Spartans to a 2-0 week as he allowed just one goal in 196:44 of play over the weekend. In the win over Eastern Mennonite, Bridegum registered six saves as he allowed one goal in the Spartans' 2-1 double overtime win over the Royals. He followed that with a clean sheet in the 3-0 win over Bridgewater on Saturday afternoon. Bridegum made three saves en route to his sixth career clean sheet. For the week, Bridegum registered nine saves in 196:44 to earn the two weeks. He finished with a 0.46 GAA.

LEAGUE NOTES

Gabriel Soriano led Mary Washington to a pair of victories this weekend in the UMW Classic. He scored one goal in the Eagles' 4-0 win over North Carolina Wesleyan in the opener, and then scored once in regulation to tie the score and assisted on the game winner in overtime as Mary Washington topped #22 Johns Hopkins to improve to 2-0...Salisbury's George Fotiou scored two goals on three shots in the first two games of his collegiate career, one being Salisbury's first of the season against Carnegie Mellon. All three shots were also on goal...Christopher Newport's Will Collins scored a goal in each of Christopher Newport's two victories in the first annual Steve Shaw Classic. Led team in total shots with six...Davis Pillow started both games for the Christopher Newport defense that allowed just one goal in two wins as part of the Steve Shaw Classic. Scored an insurance goal against Whitman late in the game with a header off an assist from Joshua Niblo. Held opponents to just five shots on-goal in two contests...York's Malcom Djiki recorded a pair of assists in the Spartans' two wins for the week. Djiki got his first career helper in the second overtime as he assisted on Zion Friday's game winning goal with 3:16 left in the second extra period to give the Spartans a 2-1 win over Eastern Mennonite. He followed that with an assist on the game's opening goal in the 3-0 win over Bridgewater. He finished the weekend with two points on the two assists. He is one of six Spartans with two points in the two games...St. Mary's Andrew Kalinoski led the Seahawk defense that allowed three goals in just two game. The senior defender also recorded two points off of one goal.
