Trio of CAC Men's Soccer Standouts Collect United Soccer Coaches All-America Honors
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Mary Washington senior Gabriel Soriano, St. Mary's senior Khalid Balogun and Christopher Newport senior Derek Cook all received All-America honors from the United Soccer Coaches. Soriano was named a first-team All-American, while Balogun and Cook collected second-team accolades.
Soriano was named to the first team after scoring eight goals and adding seven assists for the CAC Champion Eagles. He becomes the second straight first team All-America for the program, joining Justin Carey, who was named last year.
Cook is the seventh player to earn All-American recognition in the last decade as Christopher Newport has established itself as a national power year in and year out. With Cook in the middle of the stingy defense, the Captains allowed just 12 goals in over 2,014 minutes of action for a program-record 0.54 goals against average.
Balogun landed on the second team for the second consecutive season. Balogun closed out his impressive Seahawk career as a four-time all-conference pick, earning first-team awards each of the last four seasons. He led the team and the CAC in points with 36, and goals with 16.
