Mary Washington Men, York Women Take Early Leads at CAC Swimming Championships
The York women and Mary Washington men jumped out to early leads following the day two finals of the 2018 CAC Swimming Championships on Friday evening at St. Mary's.
On the men's side, Mary Washington secured just one first-place finish among the first six events of the meet, but notched four silver-medal finishes to total 290 points through day two. The Eagles 200 freestyle relay of Jeff Leckrone, Gareth Mancini, Jeremy Robertson, and Garrett Ross kicked off Friday evening's events with a victory in 1:23.92.
York earned a trio of first-place marks of day two, with Keven Stahl winning the 500 freestyle (4:31.39), Jesse Tate taking top honors in the 200 IM (1:52.98), and the 400 medley relay of Morgan Schreiber, Tyler Maggio, Tate, and Stahl touching first in 3:24.71.
In the men's 50 freestyle, Salisbury's Joshua Brown out-touched Frostburg State's Christian March for gold with a time of 21.01.
On the women's side, York owns a slight 273-265 edge over UMW entering Saturday's competition. The Spartans' 200 freestyle relay of Adrianna Ayala, Justine Wantz, Rachel Spaulding, and Danielle Werner won gold in 1:37.80.
Other individual champions on Friday included Frostburg State's Macey Nitchie, who repeated in the 50 freestyle (24.08), Mary Washington's Julla Geskey in the 200 IM (2:08.65), and UMW's Claudia Keller in the 500 freestyle (5:05.85).
The UMW 400 medley relay of Carley Vaughn, Mary Zagrobelny, Megan Murphy, and Geskey rounded out the night with a win, touching in 3:54.98.
