Frostburg State junior MIKE STEVENSON and St. Mary’s freshman ANDREW GEAR were named the CAC Men’s Tennis Co-Players of the Week for April 12, 2011. Stevenson turned in a perfect week for the Bobcats, winning all four of his matches at No. 1 singles and going 5-0 at No. 1 doubles. Five of his nine wins were against CAC rivals, raising his season record to 6-3 in singles and 7-3 in doubles. Gear was selected for the weekly honor for the second time this season after he won all six of his matches (three singles, three doubles) this week, leading the Seahawks to a 2-1 week, including the team’s first-ever victory over Salisbury.

York senior TRAVIS KLEIN was named the CAC Men’s Tennis Players of the Week for March 29, 2011. Klein led the Spartans past Messiah in a non-conference match, posting a straight-sets win at No. 1 singles and combining with Colin Jones to gain an 8-1 victory at No. 1 doubles. Five of Klein’s seven singles wins this season were in the No. 1 position.

Mary Washington sophomore SAM WICHLIN and St. Mary’s freshman ANDREW GEAR were named the CAC Men’s Tennis Co-Players of the Week. Wichlin led the Eagles to four wins in five matches last week, including three CAC victories. Wichlin, the Eagles’ #1 singles player as well as half of the #1 doubles team, went undefeated on Saturday and Sunday in both singles and doubles as the Eagles improved to 4-0 in conference play. Gear went undefeated in five matches at the No. 3 singles position during the Seahawks’ Spring Break trip to Hilton Head, S.C. Gear captured all but one match in straight sets as he needed a super tiebreaker to claim the win against Macalester.

Mary Washington senior KAZ MURATA was named the CAC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week after leading the 18th-ranked Eagles to a pair of wins Saturday. After winning at No. 1 singles against CAC rival Hood, Murata gained a straight-sets win at No. 2 singles against 25th-ranked Washington & Lee. Murata also paired with Sam Wichlin for a victory at No. 1 doubles as the Eagles downed the Generals by a 6-3 margin.

York senior RYAN HARVEY was named the CAC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week after posting a 4-0 record at No. 2 singles and a 3-1 doubles mark with partner Justin Hostetter. Harvey, who needed three sets to win two of his singles battles, helped the Spartans win all four Spring Break trip matches at Hilton Head, S.C. The only doubles setback was a 9-7 decision vs. NCAA Division II Mercyhurst.
