FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Salisbury sophomore Ian Siew was named the CAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week for Feb. 27, 2018.

Salisbury sophomore Ian Siew was named the CAC Player of the Week after winning all eight matches he has played through a 5-0 start to the season for the Sea Gulls. Siew has won three of his singles matches at the No. 2 position, winning twice in straight sets (6-3, 6-0 & 6-1, 6-4), while going to three sets once for a 6-0, 4-6, 10-2 win. At No. 1 singles against Virginia Wesleyan, he claimed a 6-1, 6-0 victory. All four of his doubles vicotires came at the No. 2 spot along with classmate Matthew Ryan. The duo secured doubles wins with scores of 8-2, 8-2, 8-3, and 8-6.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Five CAC teams have opened their spring 2018 campaigns, while Frostburg State, Penn State Harrisburg, and York begin play this week ... Christopher Newport senior Justin Cerny opened the spring 3-1 at No. 2 singles and 3-1 at No. 1 doubles ... Freshman Moses Hutchison has helped No. 29 Mary Washington to a 5-0 start over five ranked opponents, posting a 4-1 record in singles and 2-1 in doubles play. After falling in his first singles match of the spring in three sets, Hutchison has won four straight, including a three-set win over Kalamazoo, a three setter over #22 Sewanee, and straight set wins over #39 Coe and #37 Stevens. He has won two matches at four singles, one at five, and one at two. In doubles, he and Ryland Byrd have picked up doubles wins over #25 Kenyon, 9-7, and over #37 Stevens, 8-2, at three doubles ... St. Mary's sophomore Jon Gorel won at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles in the Seahawks 6-3 loss to Randolph-Macon on Sunday. Gorel defeated Jacob Haines at No. 1 singles 6-4, 4-6, 10-7, and teamed with Ethan Garren for an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles ... Southern Virginia defeated Lynchburg 8-1 in its lone match so far this spring.
